Dominican Bachata
Bachata originated from the Dominican Republic where the music also was born. The original, slow style in the '60s was danced in a closed hold position, like the Bolero, often in a close embrace. Dominican Bachata basic steps move within a small square, often including a tap, soft hip movements and also syncopation depending on the music being played. Today the style can be danced faster in accordance to faster music, adding more footwork, simple turns and rhythmic freestyle moves and with alternating between closed and open position, which can be more playful adding footwork, simple turns, body movement.

Sensual Bachata
Another style of Bachata that has emerged more recently is Sensual Bachata. A lead and follow dance, that involves more body contact, as all movements are transmitted body to body. This makes the dance more sensual with a beautiful fluidity involving a good connection, body rolls, and infinite movements.
